Master of Arts in Global Urban Ministry

Dr. Grace Preedy BarnesI am pleased you are looking into BGU’s Master of Arts in Global Urban Ministry (MAGUM). This is a degree for urban ministry leaders in today’s world. Impacted by globalization and migration to cities worldwide, over half the world now lives in cities. Immigration has changed the nature of urban challenges and opportunities. These realities can produce fear, anxiety or excitement, enthusiasm and hope. Today, like never before, we have the opportunity to catch God’s global Kingdom Tsunami spreading throughout the world. It is our responsibility and challenge to seek ways to not only become a part of God’s mission globally but understand the realities that help us become transformational servant leaders in our own contexts.

The Master of Arts in Global Urban Ministry (MAGUM) degree is specifically designed to equip urban ministry leaders to cope and work effectively and creatively within current world trends. You can find a brief program description below and then click on the links for additional information. As you learn more about the MAGUM and consider if it is the right next step in your educational journey, I am here to answer any questions you might have or to be part of your discernment process.

At Breakthrough we are practicing what was central to my learning at BGU - listening to the people of the community in which we serve, seeking to learn from them how to live among them and joining them in their struggle. One of the sub points under our 'collaboration' values is actually a quote that Ray Bakke has often used in our BGU classes, 'We believe that people of good faith can work with people of good will for the good of the community.'
