BGU is holding an urban immersion in Manila, Philippines, June 20-30, 2019, in conjunction with Lausanne’s Global Workplace Forum, which will run from June 25-29, which will be part of the BGU course. BGU participants will experience an in-depth city immersion in a city where many BGU alumni live as well as experience the broadest gathering of leaders who are seeking to serve God and influence their cultures through their workplace.
It is essential that anyone who wishes to participate in this immersion (either student, alumni or audit participant) sign up by January 2019. Some BGU participants have already been selected as representatives to the Global Workplace Forum. Others will be given the opportunity to apply for roles as volunteers in order to experience the forum and assist with facilitating dialogue in workshop sessions and immersion events during the forum. All BGU participants will have the opportunity to be part of the GWF dialogue that will take place before the event as well as the post-event conversations and strategic partnership conversations.
BGU will hold a Zoom meeting for anyone interested in learning more on January 10, 2019, at 15:00 GMT (9am US CST) at https://bgu.zoom.us/j/8682965699.
Because of the global shipping trade of the Spanish empire, by the early 17th century, Madrid, Mexico City and Manila were the first global cities in history where all hemispheres and continents came together in a worldwide trade network, predating London or New York by hundreds of years. Metro Manila is the capital city of the Philippines with a population of 12.8 million and was founded in 1571. Manila makes up almost 28% of the national GDP of the Philippines. The Philippines is the 5th largest Christian country on earth, with about 90% of the population being adherents.
BGU’s urban immersion will explore areas of poverty, places of power, severe challenges as well as models of transformation on a scale that are seen in few other cities. With a host of BGU alumni on the ground, the stories will be personal and life-changing for all immersion participants. BGU’s immersion will be held during the five days before the Global Workplace Forum, with daily briefings during the forum, then a day of reflection and wrap up after the event.
