Hope for Children with Learning and Behavior Disorders
This book is joy and hope-giving –not just for classroom teachers, educators, and parents but for all of us committed with the conviction that learning disabilities and behavior challenges can be overcome, and these children can succeed and become productive and contributing members of society, given the necessary support. The author shares her experiences, both as a parent of a child with learning disabilities and teacher, detailing proven effective strategies as evidenced by students’ outcomes and testimonies of children, parents, and teachers in Jamaica.

Heartiest Congratulations to Dr. Clara Ricketts (my former ‘Boss’) on publishing your FIRST book – there are more in you. YES THEY CAN captures so much about Special Needs it felt I was in a classroom all over again- only this time with a much wider knowledge base. Wow! I like the way you wrote ‘from your heart’. And who knows what a ‘parent’ and teacher/Headteacher of children with Special Needs go through like YOU do? As the Jamaican Reggae legendary, Bob Marley says: “He who feels it, knows it”. Great motivational work. I know many families, teachers/educators, employers and care-givers will benefit from the contents outlined in your book. All the very best. God bless you!

I have read only just a few chapters of the book and I can honestly say that its worth reading. The approach to addressing the Special needs of the youth from kindergarten stage to teenage years is quite practical and evidence-based. As an educator I would recommend this book to be included on the booklist of teacher training programes and to be used as a guide by Special Education practitioners, and those who manage state owned, faith-based or other NGO’s that have programmes to address youth with special needs. This book will do very well.
Thank you Dr. Marlene for your kind comments and broad-based recommendations.
