We are pleased to announce our first official BGU Alumni Association Officers!
Nominations closed today with two nominees. Bill Tenny-Brittian was nominated for president, and Leroy Hurt was nominated for vice-president. Since both of these candidates are well qualified, we want you to have an opportunity to affirm Bill and Leroy as our newly elected first officers of the BGU Alumni Association. The new board will begin serving January 1, 2020. We will hold a commissioning service in January for the new board.
Bill Tenny-Brittian, President
Bill Tenny-Brittian graduated with his DMin from the Northwest Graduate School … now Bakke Graduate University … back in 2004. Prior to that, he was a Candler grad (Emory University) with an MDiv and he graduated from the Baptist Bible Institute … now Florida Baptist College … with a BTh. (He’s often wondered if going to schools in transition says something about him!) He’s been in professional ministry for just shy of forty years and is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). On the other hand, he’s served as pastor with the Southern Baptists, the United Methodists, The Presbyterians (USA), the Christian Church (DOC), and the Christian Church independent. With that experience, it’s not surprising that he joined Bill Easum at The Effective Church Group as a church consultant, a position he held full time for fifteen years. He’s currently the president of the ECG and he serves the Raytown Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He’s the author of ten books with number eleven well under way and he’s the managing editor of Net Results magazine, America’s oldest Church Growth and Evangelism magazine. He’s married to the Rev. Dr. Kris Tenny-Brittian (BGU 2005) and they make their home in Columbia, Missouri with their four Old English Sheepdogs.
Leroy Hurt, Vice President
Dr. Leroy Hurt is the Associate Dean for Lifelong Learning at The University of Alabama’s College of Continuing Studies. His responsibilities include the Bryant Conference Center, the Bryant Museum, Conference Services, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), the UA Gadsden Center, and Corporate Engagement.
Prior to joining The University of Alabama, he held management and consulting positions in Fortune 500 firms, state government, higher education, and the US military. An officer in the US Army’s Signal Corps, Leroy was Assistant Chief of Staff/G6 (Chief Information Officer) for the I Corps at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was a manager and consultant at Sprint, Washington Mutual, and Booz Allen Hamilton as well as director of state IT policy and planning at the Washington Department of Information Services.
Leroy was an Assistant Professor of English at the US Military Academy at West Point, a member of the business and technology adjunct faculty of University of Phoenix. He also taught MBA, MTL, and DTL courses for Bakke Graduate University and has had the honor of advising DTL candidates on their final projects.
Leroy holds the Doctorate of Transformational Leadership from BGU and holds master degrees from California University in California, Pennsylvania; Regis University in Denver, Colorado; University of Washington, Seattle, Washington; and has his BS in Engineering Management from the US Military Academy in West Point, New York.
The hunt is still on for the third member of the BGU Alumni Team … but keep your eyes on the BGU News page. We expect an announcement any day now!
