Many Indonesian incarnational evangelists lack the experience and expertise to effectively reach their focus groups. They require ongoing training and a system of empowerment on the field, however, traditional development systems are taxed and not working. This paper briefly reviews the religious and political situation in Indonesia, reviews patterns of Indonesian power and authority, and researches current Indonesian mentoring practices. The bulk of the paper presents the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of Christian coaching. Christian coaching is an ongoing intentional conversation that empowers a person to fully live out God’s calling. Coaching has the potential to train and empower Indonesian evangelists on the field.

The three anticipated outcomes of this study are to (a) develop a new methodology of coaching, (b) produce a reproducible coach-training program to train non-experts to become effective coaches, and (c) equip field workers who are empowered by their leaders to do the hard work of evangelism in some of the world’s most difficult places.
