Selecting and Assisting Intentional Interim Pastors within the Conservative Baptist Association of America

Interim pastors serve a church for periods generally ranging six months to two years. An intentional interim pastor also serves short-term, but with the specific goal of bringing healing to a hurting church.

This project seeks to explore the unique nature of this work, the personality suitable to do the job and the resources available to that person. To accomplish this task, the project develops as follows.

Chapter one defines terms and sets limitations. Chapter two examines the existing literature that addresses interim pastors and change agents. Chapter three examines scriptural insight that can be added to the field of understanding. Chapter four gathers raw data from those engaged in the role of interim. Chapters five, six and seven present the findings. Chapter five explores the character required to serve as an intentional interim. Chapter six describes the functional needs of contracts and legal matters. Chapter seven explores resources and tools the interim can use. Chapter eight summarizes the work and offers suggestions for future consideration. This effort is intended to explore how intentional interim pastors can be effective within the fellowship of Conservative Baptist Churches.
