Church as a Learning Organization: A New Model of Organizational Development for the 21st Century

by S. Craig Bishop
June 1st, 2000
In answer to the needs of a postmodern world, this project is intended to explore one central issue: Is there viability in applying the principles of the Learning Organization Model, as popularized by Peter M. Senge in his classic book The Fifth Discipline, to the Church? In other words, can the church find a path to continuing renewal through viewing itself using the lens of the Learning Organization Model? This project will examine the management theory of the Learning Organization Model as defined by Senge and amplified by a host of other writers. The research and conclusions will provide a body of knowledge that will help churches navigate the treacherous waters of change in the Third Millenium.
